Investing in countries from central Europe to central Asia

President Mirow announces plans to boost 2009 EBRD investments

President Mirow has announced plans to invest up to seven billion euros in 2009 in response to the severe impact of the global economic crisis on central and Eastern Europe, a record amount for any single year since the Bank was founded.

The plan represents an increase of over one billion euros in investments in 2009, or nearly 20 percent above existing plans.

New Enviromental and Social Policy

A new Enviromental and Social Policy is applied to all EBRD projects as of November 2008. The EBRD President Thomas Mirow speaks about the advancements that the policy brings for the Bank and its countries of operations.

Investing in Turkey

The EBRD plans to invest up to US$ 600 million in Turkey by 2010. Investments will contribute to the development of Turkey's private sector and reach out to areas away from the large metropolitan centres.

EBRD calls for support to eastern Europe as credit squeeze tightens

In a letter to shareholders, EBRD President Thomas Mirow encourages countries with financial strength to support their weaker neighbours. All countries, and especially those in Europe, have benefited from the growing economic strength of central and eastern Europe and will suffer if the region’s economic stability is jeopardised.
