Ongoing projects related to the Water Framework Directive
Spain
The Wastewater treatment plant in Bilbao discharges into the Ria Nervion, which is an estuary. MIKE and MOUSE models have been set up and the water quality modelling will evaluate the impacts from the discharge. A key point of the project is the relationship between Water Framework Directive requirements on ecological status and the modelling results on water quality variables. The project area covers two natural water bodies and one heavily modified water body.
Denmark
The Danish EPA has asked DHI Water & Environment to prepare a first approach towards implementing the Water Framework Directive in Denmark. The work includes interviews with relevant authorities in a number of European countries to get an overview of the status in Europe.
