Assistance in Decentralized Rural Electrification through Photovoltaics
- Energy development in Syria over the last two decades has been
remarkable. The consumption of electricity almost tripled in the period.
Presently, a considerable number of rural villages are still out of access
to electricity. There is no immediate prospect for grid extension, nor is
that a most viable option.
- This limits opportunities for economic growth in rural areas, contributing
to job scarcity and urban migration.
- This is a pilot project to introduce Photovoltaic (PV) systems to the
Syria for the promotion of rural electrification through various PV
applications ranging from individual stand-alone and centralized PV system
to fresh water pumping and brackish water desalination system powered by
PV.
- Total budget: $553,700 (Source: CO confirmation)
