Project Efficiency control and performance verification of improved approaches for soil-groundwater protection and rehabilitation

PROMOTE develops pre-normative protocols for credible environmental technology verification (ETV). PROMOTE will also set up an ETV platform for an open “CEN-workshop” tool beyond the projects duration.

Project number GOCE 518074
Subject(s) ANALYSIS AND TESTS , MEASUREMENTS AND INSTRUMENTATION , NATURAL MEDIUM , PREVENTION AND NUISANCES POLLUTION , RISKS AND CLIMATOLOGY
Acronym PROMOTE
Geographical coverage Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Belgium, France, Poland
Budget (in €) 2400000

Objectives
PROMOTE will acquire the potential to act as one of the initiators for a European Environmental Technology Verification System, overcoming implementation barriers and bridging the gap between innovative and accepted technique

PROMOTE will address these challanges by:

  1. Elaborating a generic environmental technology verification (ETV) system designed to be basically applicable to a broad range of environmental technologies.

  2. Adapting the ETV system to monitoring approaches and remediation technologies in soil-groundwater systems.

  3. Verifying the ETV system at reference site and in field site scale.

  4. ETV system transfer to related environmental technologies in cooperation with the related EU projects EURODEMOTestnet and AIRTV.

  5. Setting–up of a “CEN Workshop” procedure to come to a common understanding of verification requirements.
Results

Since the start of the project in September 2005 PROMOTE has worked out several documents on the status, the development and integration of ETV.

  • Newsletter No 3 (Issue 3 2007)
The first PROMOTE newsletter outlined and explained the verification scheme worked out within PROMOTE (see issue 01 – September 2006). To further evaluate the applicability of the developed verification procedure and to gain first practical experiences with it, a ”roleplay” was established within the project. A real verification was run under reference site conditions at the “Research Facility for Subsurface Remediation” (VEGAS) in Stuttgart, Germany. The tasks of the institutions involved in the verification procedure were assigned to different project partners. For first experiences with the verification scheme in the reference site tests please see page two of this issue.
