EUREAUTERRITORIALES-Joining across the Water
- The management of natural water resources will be one of the priorities of
the future territorial co-operation objective (the successor of the INTERREG
Community initiative) of the European structural funds for 2007-2013.
- In light of the new round of structural funding, the Cycleau Partnership
will hold this event in Quimper, Finistère, France, on 12-13 October 2006,
focusing on the European dimension of river catchment management. The main
objective is to encourage a learning culture and sharing know how among
regions of Europe. It will also be an opportunity for Cycleau to disseminate
lessons learnt on the management of European projects and showcase its final
outputs.
- The previous Cycleau Conferences held on 7-8 October 2004 in Ballina,
Co.Mayo, Ireland and on 22-23 September 2005 in Falmouth, Cornwall,
UK, were very successful and involved over 450 people in total from 14
different countries across Europe and beyond.

Objectives | - The Cycleau approach is based on the water cycle and deals with whole
river catchments as a single entity, from source to sea. Its objective is to
form a shared, integrated approach to the planning and management of natural
water resources in the coastal zone. At present, there is no common approach
to this issue in Europe, even though it is a widespread problem in coastal
areas. - The Cycleau Project aims to produce a roadmap that can be used by communities wishing to use best practice in environmental management. Although Cycleau will end in December 2006, its legacy will be a "quality brand", a methodology that will help communities best look after their own water environments. |
