2nd International Short Course: Advances in Knowledge of Urban Drainage from the Catchment to the Receiving Water

The course, organized by ‘Centro Studi Acquedotti e Fognature’, ‘Dipartimento di Difesa del Suolo’ (University of Calabria), ‘Laboratorio di Idraulica Urbana (LIU)’ and ’Associazione Idrotecnica Italiana – Calabria division’- focuses on stormwater control and management. Pollution caused by stormwater and wastewater discharge into the receiving waters is a well-known problem, which is much debated by researchers; however, it has been tending more and more towards a combined strategy, that provides multiple levels solutions, such as stormwater flow reduction through local retention capacity, infiltration through permeable surfaces, real-time control in order to optimize pipe capacity, tanks to store overflow, stormwater and wastewater treatment. The aim of the course is to provide theoretical basic knowledge as well as a practical approach. The course is articulated in two teachin parts, presentations of research findings by world-renowned experts, and direct comparison with specialist companies who will attend with extremely new solutions; hence, a great chance of exchange between researchers, companies and people attending a course is created, with the choice of organizing the course into two days, during which breaks are provided, located at the facilities of the University of Calabria. The course is designed for practising hydraulic and environmental engineers, as well as graduates and researchers.
