Conference on Municipal Waste Management - Horizon 2020

Horizons 2020, a conference on municipal waste is to be held in Marseilles, France, on 20 November 2007 as part of the Mediterranean Economic Week. This conference aims to provide concrete examples of how to tackle the problems of municipal waste and targets municipalities and local authorities responsible for dealing with municipal waste particularly in the Mediterranean countries outside the EU, however interested authorities from inside the EU are also invited to attend.

The organisers are in a position to finance the participation of approximately 50 participants from Mediterranean countries covered by the European Neighbourhood Policy, i.e. Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, West Bank and Gaza. It may be also possible to finance participants from Candidate Countries, such as Croatia and Turkey, although that is not yet confirmed. Eligibility is dependent on the extent of participant’s responsibilities in the municipal waste sector, as well as the relevance of their current post to the subject matter of the conference.

Other participants who are able to finance their own participation are also welcome.
