ProMembrane Internationonal Conference

This International Conference constitutes the most relevant event held under the project ProMembrane, a Specific Support Action (SSA) financed by the Sixth Framework Programme (FP6) of the European Union, under the Specific  Measures in Support of International Cooperation (INCO) with Mediterranean Partner Countries (MPC). It is a project run by a consortium of seven partners  from Germany, Italy, Spain, Tunisia, Egypt, Syrian Arab Republic and West Bank Palestine, led by TTZ-Bremerhaven (Germany).

The ProMembrane project focuses on the Membrane Technology (MT) as a key figure to abate the escalating water crisis existing today in the Mediterranean Region. Past surveys show that the applications of advanced water treatment  methods, such as membrane technologies, are technical options for sustainable water supply in the MPC which could foster an efficiency revolution in all sectors of the economy. For instance, wastewater reuse and reclamation can constitute additional water resource for irrigation, as well as desalination of sea water to provide potable water.

Therefore, ProMembrane aims at encouraging further research in the area, increasing the scientific background and unifying efforts in the membrane research field, in order to offer an option to the water supply and treatment situation in the Mediterranean water-scarce area. In this regard, the ProMembrane International Conference will contribute to ProMembrane objectives, which are:

to support the current research activities in membrane technology for water treatment in the Mediterranean Region,
to promote and facilitate the dissemination, transfer and exploitation of results of current and past research in the field,
to encourage the permanent participation of young scientists in the field of membrane technology,and
to promote the establishment of permanent communication links between research centres, universities and industry in the Mediterranean region, promoting the know - how exchange and expertise in relation to membrane technologies.
