Event The human right to water and sanitation: –From moral to legal obligation

In September 2010, the UN Human Rights Council adopted a resolution saying that access to drinking water and sanitation is a human right and that it is situated legally under the Right to an adequate standard of living, article 11 of the Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.

In March 2011, the Human Rights Council will hold a session where the Independent Expert, Catarina de Albuquerque, will submit her final report after a 3 year mandate. In view of the upcoming session, we want to discuss and clarify the Swedish position in relation to the Human Rights Council. We will also discuss how Sweden will implement the right to water and sanitation through its new policy for environment and climate.
