Event 3rd International Congress: Smallwat 2011

Seville has been chosen as the venue for the 3rd International Congress Smallwat11 organised by the CENTA Foundation, to be held from 25 to 28 April 2011. As well as hearing about the latest scientific progress in small-scale wastewater treatment, the conference will also assess the current state of implementation of the Water Framework Directive (WFD) and the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) related to access to drinking water and sanitation.

Wastewater in Small Communities. Towards the Water Framework Directive (WFD) and the Millennium Development Goals (MDG)is the title of the International Congress Smallwat11, which, in this third edition, has consolidated itself as an essential reference point for scientists, technicians and policymakers. After a review of a selection of the best international research works carried out in recent years, there will be a debate on compliance with the internationally-agreed agenda, with a view to the horizon of 2015.

In this sense, the WFD and the achievement of the good ecological status of surface waters by means of the measures contemplated in the water management plans of European countries, as well as the MDG, with regard to the reduction of the population lacking access to basic sanitation by 50%, will be the centre of the debates at Smallwat11.

The CENTA Foundation has defined the topics of the conference and appointed the Scientific Committee, which includes a selection of persons of recognized international prestige. The topics proposed for the presentation of scientific communications are: decentralised urban, industrial and domestic wastewater collection, treatment technologies, water reuse, ecological sanitation, environmental issues, compliance with the Water Framework Directive and the Millennium Development Goals, water governance and case studies.
