In-Situ Environmental Monitoring and Policy Symposium

This symposium is relevant for scientists, policy makers, consultants, site owners, water managers and remediation companies who are concerned about natural water resources. The purpose of the symposium is to provide researchers, practitioners and policy makers opportunities to exchange information and new experiences.
The quality of natural water resources is a major concern for the coming decades. According to the EU Water framework Directive, not only the quality of the surface water, but also groundwater quality needs to be improved.

To this purpose, reliable measurement of surface water and groundwater characteristics and, pollutant fluxes are of major importance. In-situ water quality sensors, sensor networks, mobile platforms, and passive sampling methodologies are emerging technologies for in situ measurement of the water quality and the quantification of pollutant mass fluxes in water systems.

During the symposium “In-situ Environmental Monitoring and Policy (IEMP)”, sessions with invited oral presentations, a poster session and a commercial exhibition will be organized. Recent developments in water quality sensing, ICT and mass flux measurements will be highlighted. Furthermore, also the possibility to apply the above mentioned measurement techniques in the framework of water and soil policy making (i.e. Water Framework Directive and the Flemish Decree on Soil Remediation and Soil Protection) will be discussed.
