Event 2nd Biennial International Society for River Science (ISRS) Symposium

Rivers are vibrant life lines of our landscapes. They laterally link up and downstream habitats, facilitate exchange between groundwater and surface water as well as connect freshwater with marine ecosystems. Thereby, rivers interlink biomes over large spatial and temporal scales as well as aquatic with terrestrial and social with environmental systems. The 2011 Symposium of the International Society for River Science brings scientists from various disciplines together from all over the world to specifically address these linkages and  the resulting challenges for river science. The symposium provides a forum for wide-ranged discussions, knowledge exchange, and interaction of colleagues and friends interested in all aspects of river science.

Topics of the venue cover:

Linkages and boundaries along river corridors: upstream – downstream, river – sea, emergent ecological features of large rivers

Aquatic – terrestrial linkages: floodplain ecology, complex hydromorphological – ecological feedbacks, functional linkages via complex life cycles

Biodiversity – ecosystem service linkages: linkages between diversity and ecological functions, role of invasive species, multiple stressors – ecological responses, quality of ecosystem services

Social – ecological linkages: management of multiple pressures, urban footprints, climate change impacts, river restoration challenges, management of novel ecosystems and communities

Conference proceedings will be made available for the broader scientific community. Manuscripts submitted at the symposium undergo a peer reviewing process organised by the scientific committee of the conference to be published as special issue of a high ranking scientific journal.

Details on the publication plan and evaluation process will be available soon.
