Event 8th EWA Brussels Conference & EU-Policy Workshop

The 8th EWA Brussels Conference will take place in Brussels on the 30th October 2012.

Held in cooperation with the DG Environment of the European Commission, the main objective of the annual EWA.

Brussels Conference is to establish a dialogue between the European Commission and European water professionals and stakeholders.

This year’s topic is the European Year of Water and associated upcoming challenges. The main three fields that will be addressed during the conference are water quality, water quantity and the water/energy nexus.

The Conference addresses these topics in four sessions with presentations on:

  • · Climate Adaptation – Water Scenarios and Sectorial aspects
  • Needs and Challenges for Water Reuse in Europe
  • Water as an Irreplaceable Part of Agricultural Production
  • Micro Pollutants and their Role in the Implementation of Water Management
  • Compatibility of Hydropower with the Water Framework Directive
  • Energy Recovery Strategies in the Urban Water Cycle
  • Research and Innovation in the European Water Sector
  • and Challenges of Financing Water Infrastructure in Southeast Europe

Speakers of the conference will contribute to the debate with an academic, institutional and commercial background. Mr. Peter Gammeltoft, Head of the Water Unit at DG Environment, will open the Conference with a key note speech on First Results of the Blueprint Process.

On the following day (31st October), EWA offers an EU-Policy Workshop: How to deal with Brussels. Dr. Helmut Blöch will lead this workshop and will introduce the participants to all aspects of EU Water Policy.
