The 4th INCO Conference and the annual NCP meeting will take place on 17-19 June 2013 at the World Trade Center of Marseille, France.

The main objective of the conference will be to discuss the future of international cooperation in European and international Research and Innovation programmes. This year, the regional focus emphasizes experiences from Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) and Mediterranean Partner Countries (MPC).

This conference is organized under “INCONTACT-One World” (Transnational Cooperation among National Contact Points for International Cooperation). Since the beginning of the project, three conferences were held in Athens, Johannesburg and Bonn. This year, Marseille has the pleasure to host the fourth and last INCO conference.

The recent economic crisis has underlined again the need to invest on a knowledge based economy. Global action is also a necessity for addressing several challenges (environmental, health, societal, etc) that require immediate attention.

Addressing this need of an interconnected world, the European Union has invested in the development of the International Scientific Cooperation (INCO) to address the needs and opportunities, and to contribute to peace and prosperity for European citizens.

The European Commission (EC) has specifically come forward recently with a communication (Enhancing and focusing EU international cooperation in research and innovation: a strategic approach) that sets out a new strategy for international cooperation in research and innovation.

The 1st January 2014; a new European framework programme for research and innovation will be launched. Horizon 2020 will offer new challenges and opportunities for international cooperation...

Topic:

The main topic of the 4th INCO conference will be the future of international cooperation in European (DG RTD – DG DevCo) and International Research and Innovation programmes. This year, the regional priority of the conference emphasizes experiences from Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) and Mediterranean Partner Countries (MPC). The conference will present opportunities for developing and emerging countries in Horizon 2020 and other funding sources for projects of mutual interest between EU and third countries.

Objectives:

  • Share information on international R&I cooperation
  • Examine experiences of international R&I partnerships
  • Collect the views of developing and emerging countries towards international cooperation in research and innovation
  • Discuss opportunities and challenges for third countries in Horizon 2020 and other programmes
  • Outline the frame for international cooperation in European and other programmes

Participants:

The main day of the conference (18 June 2013) is open to all stakeholders interested in international scientific cooperation:

  • INCO NCPs
  • Representatives of EU member states
  • EU Commission (DG RTD, DG DEVCO, EEAS)
  • FP7 project coordinators with international partners
  • Researchers involved in FP7 projects comprising partners from developing and emerging countries
