Event World Water Week

World Water Week is hosted and organised by the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) and takes place each year in Stockholm. The World Water Week has been the annual focal point for the globe's water issues since 1991.

Every year, over 200 collaborating organisations convene events at the World Water Week. In addition, individuals from around the globe present their findings at the scientific workshops.

World Water Week theme

Each year the World Water Week addresses a particular theme to enable a deeper examination of a specific water-related topic. While not all events during the week relate to the overall theme, the workshops driven by the Scientific Programme Committee and many seminars and side events do focus on various aspects of the theme. 2013 theme is Water Cooperation - Building Partnerships.

Browse this website to see the Thematic Scope for 2013 on Water Cooperation, and the workshops covering different aspects of the theme.

MENA Focus: Using Research Partnerships to Solve Middle East Water Challenges - Tuesday 17:45-18:45 / Room K11

Convenor(s): Middle East and North Africa Network of Water Centers of Excellence
Co-convenor(s): United States Agency for International Development

This side event showcases the work of the newly created Middle East and North Africa Network of Water Centers of Excellence. MENA NWC is a fulfilment of President Obama's commitment to enhance science and technology in the Middle East and North Africa. The Network strives to foster partnerships that build and exchange regional science and technology capacity to improve water resources planning and management; and develop and disseminate technical and management interventions that expand water supply, manage demand, and increase its efficient and productive use.

At the Network's core is an active, applied research program aimed at improving water use efficiency and productivity, groundwater management, non-conventional water, water/energy/food, and water and sanitation. Eighteen national and international research and educational entities from Morocco to Oman are jointly carrying out research in partnership with governments and businesses. The event seeks to initiate partnerships between MENA NWC and representatives of other entities attending World Water Week.
