Horizon 2020: Launch Event in the Med region "Meeting Euromed Common Challenges"

| The Regional Conference to promote and present H2020 in the EuroMed region organized by the European Commission’s DG Research and Innovation of January 20th, due to unforeseen circumstance, has been postponed to February 9th, 2014. The conference aims indeed to discuss the future of international cooperation in Research and Innovation in the EuroMed region under Horizon 2020. International cooperation, especially with its neighbouring countries and the Mediterranean region, is a key priority of EU research and innovation funding. This conference will aim to draw the attention of stakeholders in EuroMed countries to the opportunities and challenges for MPCs in Horizon 2020 as well as promote the programme to R&I stakeholders in the region. The conference will focus on the following key and relevant issues: • R&I capacity in the southern Mediterranean region: stocktaking from FP7, RDI and other programmes, and ways forward • Horizon 2020 programmes and cooperation modalities • EU international cooperation strategy • Regional and bilateral R&I cooperation: opportunities and challenges To register and to participate please go here. |
The EU promotes R&I through its seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (FP7). FP7 launched its last round of calls in 2013, and now the EU is preparing for the launch of its successor, Horizon 2020, the largest collaborative transnational research programme in the world with an expected overall budget of €79 billion from 2014 to 2020. Horizon 2020 offers many opportunities for addressing EuroMed Common Challenges through R&I international cooperation.
The European Commission’s DG Research and Innovation is organising a regional Conference to promote and present H2020 in the EuroMed region. The conference aims to discuss the future of international cooperation in Research and Innovation in the EuroMed region under Horizon 2020. International cooperation, especially with its neighbouring countries and the Mediterranean region, is a key priority of EU research and innovation funding. This conference will aim to draw the attention of stakeholders in EuroMed countries to the opportunities and challenges for MPCs in Horizon 2020 as well as promote the programme to R&I stakeholders in the region.
The participation of the stakeholders will aim towards:
- Promoting H2020 and presenting its different components /programmes as well as main changes as compared to FP7
- Initiating dialogue and getting involved in knowledge sharing discussions so as to develop an understanding of the current status of regional research, innovation and development activities.
- Bringing together multiple stakeholders concerned with R&I in the region (universities, research organisations, business, NGOs, funding insitutions). Thus, offering a stage for EuroMed stakeholders to network as well as jointly analyze the barriers existing for projects in the region.
- Enabling the policy makers, development organisations, research institutions and private sector of sharing their know-how, and favourable framework conditions
- Exploring gaps and links between research, innovation, and development/or demonstration initiatives in the region
- Developing an understanding of how R&I initiatives could create complementarities and synergies that allow leveraging potentials and addressing societal challenges in the region
