Event 3rd pan-EU Drought Dialogue Forum of the FP7 DROUGHT-R&SPI project & the Water Framework Directive SCG members meeting

The 3rd pan-EU Drought Dialogue Forum of the FP7 DROUGHT-R&SPI project that will be held on 4 November, 2014, back-to-back with the Water Framework Directive SCG members meeting (November 5-6).

Registration starts at 12:30 hrs and lunch will be served around 13:00 hrs.

The programme starts at 13:30 and is organised around the following themes:

  • Theme 1: European Drought Impact Database
  • Theme 2: Pan-EU maps of drought vulnerability factors
  • Theme 3: Drought: monitoring, forecasting and indicators
  • Theme 4: How to upscale context-specific CS experiences to the pan-European scale

The Forum will be closed at 18:00 hrs and we have the pleasure to invite you for drinks and dinner after the Forum, at the same location.

With respect to Theme 1: drought impacts are extremely diverse and often difficult to clearly associate to a drought hazard, to clearly locate and time stamp, or to quantify. The European Drought Impact report Inventory (EDII) is a database created by the DROUGHT-R&SPI project, which collected and archived categorized drought impacts from the last decades in a geo-referenced format.

In our opinion this new data has considerable potential to improve pan-European drought risk assessment. Based on insights gained from the data collection and analysis, we aim to discuss with you the policy implications of a new view on similarities and differences of drought impacts across Europe's geo-climatic regions and the potential for further use and development of the inventory. You are welcome to explore or contribute to the online database under http://www.geo.uio.no/edc/droughtdb/  (requires creating a login).

We would highly appreciate your participation in this third Drought Dialogue Forum and request you to please be so kind to inform Linda Oud by Wednesday October 29th, about your intention to join the Forum (Y/N) and the Dinner (Y/N).
