The neZEH 2015 conference: Sustainable hotels and competitive hotels through energy innovation - Nearly zero energy hotels

The nearly Zero Energy Hotels 2015 conference - neZEH 2015 - will offer a unique forum for attendees from the tourism and hotel sector, sustainable buildings and energy efficiency professionals, EU policy makers, representatives from national, regional and local authorities, as well as other interested stakeholders in order to actively exchange, share and challenge the opportunities of energy innovation through nearly zero energy strategies, as a means to enhance sustainability and competitiveness in the hotel sector. 

This international conference, co-funded by the European Commission, will take place as part of the Innovative City Convention 2015, a major European and international event which gathered 3000 visitors in 2014.  The language will be English and French with simultaneous translation.

The neZEH conference is free to attend upon registration, while registered participants will also have free access to the Innovative City features.  

What can you expect? 

Around two thirds of global carbon emissions come from energy use. The tourism sector, as a provider of services, is an important energy consumer and over 20% of its carbon emissions come from accommodation. There are huge opportunities for the hotel industry to reduce its energy consumption 

In this perspective, the neZEH 2015 conference will: 

- Present the issues and challenges addressed by the nearly Zero Energy Hotels Initiative, with a particular focus on how energy innovation in the hotel sector can contribute to the European and International objectives relating to climate change mitigation. 

- Inspire and drive replication of best practice by showcasing relevant examples and demonstrating the feasibility and benefits of nearly Zero Energy Hotels. 

- Host discussions on the opportunities for action to be seized by hoteliers, such as existing financial tools as well as supporting mechanisms. 

- Underline the potential of nearly Zero Energy Building policies to enhance the transition towards sustainable tourism and cities. 

- Highlight the marketing opportunities linked to sustainable strategies, in a context of growing awareness in clients’ behavior.
