Event The 3rd Space for Hydrology Workshop - "Surface Water Storage and Runoff: Modeling, In-Situ data and Remote Sensing"

The European Space Agency, in the context of the Scientific Exploitation of Operational Missions (SEOM) programme element, and CNES are organising a sequel event to Hydrospace2007 held at WMO, called 3rd Space for Hydrology Workshop - "Surface Water Storage and Runoff: Modeling, In-Situ data and Remote Sensing", Tuesday 15 - Thursday 17 September 2015, hosted at  ESA-ESRIN, Frascati, Italy.

A first workshop was held in Toulouse, France, in 2003 (Click here for more information -- http://gos.legos.free.fr/HydroSpa2003.htm). The summary and recommendations, published in AGU's EOS, insisted on the organisation of a sequel meeting, which was held in Geneva in 2007 (Click here for the second workshop website -- http://earth.esa.int/workshops/hydrospace07/). It is again timely to gather the scientific community around a workshop-style brainstorming event.

The main objectives of the workshop are to prepare for the exploitation of the next generation of altimeters, to bring together hydrologists, model developers and in-situ data analysts, and space scientists in order to tackle the future challenges in the hydrology of surface water storage and runoff.  Round table discussions are planned to address key questions such as:

• "What are the key science questions ahead?"

• What are the challenges and how to address them?

• What aspects of surface water observation and modelling are sufficiently mature for use in operational services? From Research and Development to Operational Use of remote sensing information in hydrological applications and water resources Management… how do we go from here?

• How to strengthen the collaboration between the three communities: in-situ, modeling and space observation scientists?

The expected outcome of the workshop is to define an action plan for the future and converge on recommendations from the Scientific Community

The workshop is open to all interested parties, from scientists to operational users in water management.  Scientists from different fields including remote sensing experts, modelers in hydrology and in-situ observers as well as users are most welcome.

We kindly invite you to submit your abstract/s by using the on-line abstract submission page, available on our website at:
