EU project to hold meeting on Water-Energy-Food connection in the Mediterranean

The EU-funded MedSpring project is organising the 3rd Euro-Mediterranean Expert Group (EMEG) meeting in Malta from 30 September to 2 October, working on the “water-food-energy nexus". 

The meeting will focus on the development of a framework for a comprehensive understanding of the interdependence of water, energy and food and, through a better understanding of the synergies and trade-offs among them, identify the factors that research should take into consideration to ensure that demand is met without compromising sustainability requirements. 

 MedSpring is a project funded under the EU’s Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (FP7) with the aim of encouraging and strengthening Euro-Mediterranean Cooperation on Research and Innovation.  

In 2014, the EU launched Horizon 2020, the largest collaborative transnational research programme in the world with an overall budget of €80 billion. The programme is open to non-EU countries, offering Southern Mediterranean researchers opportunities for cooperation with researchers from other parts of the world.
