Event Membrane-based Desalination Processes (Desal-Pro) (Intensive 16hrs course)

Introduction

This 16hrs intensive course for membrane-based desalination processes (Desal-Pro), mainly delivers the comprehensive understanding of membrane-based desalination technologies from theory to applications.
Particularly, Reverse Osmosis (RO), Forward Osmosis (FO), Pressure Retarded Osmosis (PRO), Membrane Distillation (MD), and its integrated processes will be covered. In the course, fundamental mechanisms of transport phenomena in membrane-based desalination processes are firstly offered, fouling and scaling in the membranes are followed, and process design of seawater reverse osmosis desalination will be trained.

  • Date & Time : 16(Mon) 13:00 – 18(Wed) 12:00, 2015
  • Venue : Crystal Room, 4F, Lotte City Hotel, Jeju in Republic of Korea
  • Language : English
  • Registration fee : US$ 400(Regular), US$ 300(Student)
  • On-line registration : http://desalist.gdrc.or.kr
  • Desal-Pro certificates will be offered after the course.
  • You will get US$ 100 discount of Registration fee of Desal-Pro when registering IDW2015.

Who should attend?

The course is opened to all the affiliated members in the school, company, and research institutes. Especially, it is beneficial to professionals who are familiar with membrane-based desalination technologies, with the objective of providing the knowledge from scientific to practical stage and the insights into future direction of the desalination technology.

Short Bios of Lecturers

이미지 Professor Joon Ha Kim is a professor of Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology in Korea.
He has a background of Chemical Engineering discipline from Korea as well as California in the US. He has researched on the academic area of environmental systems engineering, which associates complex environmental systems with control theories, modeling, and optimized solutions to mitigate the problems caused by the intrinsic complexities in the systems. The main research areas of Prof. Kim are environmental systems engineering including open and closed systems. Specifically, he is specialized in data-mining and modeling of complex systems, desalination engineering and optimization, watershed modeling and water pollution management, membrane systems optimization in water treatment, and non-point source pollutants modeling and management.
이미지 Professor Chuyang Y. Tang is a professor of the University of Hong Kong in Hong Kong.
Before that, he worked as an associate professor at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, where he also served as the Deputy Director of the Singapore Membrane Technology Centre. He obtained his PhD degree from the Environmental Engineering and Science Program at Stanford University in 2007. His main research interests include membrane technology, water and wastewater treatment, desalination, water reclamation, water chemistry, and advanced physical and chemical processes. He is a recipient of the Finland Distinguished Professor Programme Fellows Award and the International Desalination Association Fellow Award.
이미지 Professor Ho Kyong Shon is a professor of the University of Technology, Sydney in Australia.
He is currently an ARC Future Fellow. Since 1998, he has made significant contributions to the understanding of physico-chemical water treatment processes. The initial stage of his research career focused on understanding membrane fouling mechanisms of organic/inorganic materials for wastewater reuse. He has been recently involved in extensive experience of membrane-based desalination processes through National Centre of Excellence Desalination in Australia, Australia Research Council Discovery Projects (ARC DP), European Desalination project (MEDINA) and SeaHERO Korean Desalination project.
