Capacity Building Workshop on Integrated Management of Shared Lakes Basins, Ohrid Lake, 16-19 July 2008

A Capacity Building Workshop on “Integrated Management of Shared Lakes Basins” is co-organised by the Global Water Partnership-Mediterranean (GWP-Med) and the Mediterranean Information Office for Environment, Culture and Sustainable Development (MIO/ECSDE) in cooperation with the GEF/UNDP “Integrated Ecosystem Management in the Prespa Lakes Basin of Albania, FYR-Macedonia and Greece” project, in Ohrid Lake, FYR Macedonia, 16-19 July 2008. The Workshop is supported by the European Commission (through the Annual Funding of MIO-ECSDE), GEF IW:LEARN and UNEP/MAP.

The purpose of the Workshop is build capacity of targeted stakeholders on transboundary lake basin management and to equip them with the proper knowledge / tools that will enhance their skills to participate in the preparation of Lake Basin Management Plans.

The activity is part of a series of four Capacity Building Workshops within 2008 (two more are planned for 2009) in the framework of the Petersberg Phase II / Athens Declaration Process and GEF IW:LEARN. It works in synergy and supports the implementation of the GEF Strategic Partnership for the Mediterranean Large Marine Ecosystems as well as the Mediterranean Component of the EU Water Initiative (MED EUWI).

The workshop is targeted at staff of :
-    competent national authorities
-    local authorities
-    joint commissions and bodies
-    management authorities of protected areas
-    NGOs and CSOs
from Albania, FYR Macedonia and Montenegro. Participants from other SEE countries may also be accepted depending on the participation of the targeted audience from the aforementioned countries.
