Event PICTURING THE ENVIRONMENT

Photographs dealing with some of the most important issues of our time will be on display from 30th May 2008 at the Apothecary Gallery, West London.

The 2007 Environmental Photographer of the Year exhibition includes images that are traditional, resonant, contemporary, creative, subversive and beautiful. They examine issues such as poverty, climate change, human rights, leisure, culture, biodiversity, natural disasters and unsustainable population growth. Together they enhance our understanding of the causes, consequences and solutions to climate change.

The exhibition will create a legacy of informed individuals working to protect our environment by providing supporting information that will help audiences acquire the knowledge they need to change their behaviour for the good of the environment.

Entries into the competition were judged on impact, creativity, composition, originality and technical abilities, by some of the most respected environmental photographers in the industry, including Gary Braasch, winner of the Ansel Adams Award for Conservation Photography, Anthony Epes and Ronnie Israel.

To enter the 2008 competition, go to www.ciwem.org/awards/epoty. It is open to all international professional and amateur photographers and this year’s categories are Changing Climates; A World of Difference; Quality of Life; and The Natural World. This will also be the first year of a special Under 21 category which has no thematic boundaries.

The 2007 Environmental Photographer of the Year exhibition will run from 30th May until 18th July 2008 and is part of CIWEM’s Arts and Environment initiative which is putting creativity into the heart of environmental thinking.
