WFD Workshop on "How to implement the Water Framework Directive on Public Participation: Sharing European Experiences"

Since its adoption in 2000, the WFD s giving an important attention to public participation. In the Frame of the Common Implementation Strategy (CIS) of the WFD, a working group on this topic has been created and it has provided a guidance document. Now, all the Member States are preparing their programme of measures and the associated River Basin Management Plans. At this stage, it is crucial to apply public participation and to involve the actors in the decision making process.

In order to face these challenges and to share the experiences of different institutions, this workshop, organised under the umbrella of the French Presidency, will gather participants from the member states involved in the implementation of the WFD.

The workshop will be organised around three themes:

• How to deal with public participation for building PoMs and associated RBMPs?
• How to integrate the results of public participation in the decision making process?
• A round table on the views of the different stakeholders on public participation.
