Cairo Declaration of the Euro-Mediterranean Ministrial Conference on the Environment
Egypt hosted the 3rd Euro-Mediterranean Ministerial Conference on the Environment on 20 November 2006. The Ministerial Conference was organised by the Egyptian Ministry of State for Environmental Affairs and the European Commission. The main topic of the Ministerial conference was "Horizon 2020 Initiative" to de-pollute the Mediterranean Sea from the main polluting sources. A ministerial declaration by the name of "Cairo Declaration" has been launched after the conference including a common vision to the Euro-Mediterranean Ministers and expressing the growing interest in environmental issues with the aim at integrating these issues in all fields of cooperation between Euro-Mediterranean Partnership Countries. The Euro-Mediterranean Ministers of Environment welcomed the results of the Euro-Mediterranean Water Directors Meeting held in Athens on 6-7 November 2006, in particular, concerning their readiness to contribute to the Horizon 2020 initiative and other cooperation activities concerning water issues.
