News PhD Scholarship, Glasgow University, UK

EPSRC PhD Scholarship for 3 years duration is available in River Engineering and Management within the Water and Environment Group in Civil Engineering at Glasgow University. Applications are welcomed for research in the following areas: Flooding, river restauration, fluid-sediment dynamics, hydraulic structures and geomorphology. Introduction of the EC Water Framework Directive and concerns about climate change have dramatically increased research into UK river systems. Recognising the problem (eg. flooding, over-abstraction, pollution) is only the start of a long restoration process that involves detailed understanding of each part of the river system. This is where your PhD research is so important; you will focus on a specific problem and research the fundamental science or procedural changes that might eliminate them. You will become an expert in your area of interest and integrate your research into engineering solutions using physical and/or computational modelling. The Department of Civil Engineering is welcoming scholarship applications to conduct research leading to a PhD (3 years full time), starting between April and October 2007. Candidates are strongly recommended to apply immediately via: Dr. Haynes.
