France registers the right to water in its national law
France has just published its new law on water and the aquatic environments (Law on water and the aquatic environments n°2006-1772 of December 30, 2006 “LEMA”) whose first article stipulates that: “each individual, for his food and his hygiene, has the right to reach drinking water under conditions economically acceptable by all.” The right thus defined is an individual right but it is not an opposable right fault of having indicated the authority in charge of the implementation. The advisory national Commission of the human rights decided in plenary assembly to evaluate the extent to which this right to water conceived as a right of access to drinking water can be regarded as an human right. The Report on the official recognition of the right to water (in France and at international level) is from now on available on the site of the Academy of water.
