LIFE and the implementation of the Water Framework Directive

Rivers and the river basin are central to the EU Water Framework Directive and its potential to achieve real change. However, throughout the EU, rivers are in danger of failing to meet the challenge of achieving good ecological status by 2015. LIFE projects are making a particular contribution to the efforts to implement the Directive by testing, validating and demonstrating procedures and approaches to help develop the management and sharing of information and the production of sound guidance on technical issues.
