News Degrémont has signed contracts worth close to 55 million € for the Cairo wastewater treatment plant, the largest in Africa

Degrémont, a subsidiary of SUEZ Environment, has recently been awarded a contract to design, build and operate the Gabal El Asfar wastewater treatment plant extension in Egypt. The plant, located to the east of Cairo and with a daily treatment capacity of 1,500,000 m3, currently treats the wastewater of 9 million of Cairo’s residents. The facility needs to be extended to handle an additional capacity of 300,000 m3/day; the construction thereof will take 40 months as from the end of 2007 and will be entirely financed by the Egyptian state. Thanks to this extension, wastewater treatment facilities will be provided to 1.8 million additional residents.
