The Earth Observation Laboratory (EOLAB), a spin-off from the University of Valencia, has developed a new prototype to provide environmental cartography in real-time

EOLAB (The Earth Observation Laboratory) is a spin-off from the University of Valencia (Spain), funded by young doctorates with a wide experience in remote sensing techniques, acquired during their research in that university. EOLAB fills the existing gap between science and society, favouring de development of applications derived from remote sensing, as well as the access to that kind of information.

EOLAB is divided into two differenced branches, global and local. EOLAB-global has provided technical assistance and consulting to different European Centre Services and Research Institutes (POSTEL, VITO, INRA). In the EOLAB-local branch highlights the development of the GEA prototype, which provides environmental cartography in real-time. This prototype allows to the user to contract the service and define regions of interest. The information that can be extracted from the region of interest is composed, among others, by fractional vegetation cover, evapotranspiration and water deficit of irrigation crops. At this moment the information available is obtained from Landsat TM5 data, at a spatial resolution of 30 meters, but other spatial resolutions (MODIS) will be available soon.
