News EC and Morocco signed a Memorandum of Understanding on statistical data exchange

The EC and Morocco have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) establishing the basis for a sustainable exchange of statistical data between Morocco and Eurostat, within the context of the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP). To celebrate this event a ceremony took place in Rabat.

Co-operation will focus on the exchange of data for the following priority sectors: Agriculture, Energy, Environment, External Trade & Balance of Payments, National Accounts, Social, Transport and Tourism.

Morocco is the second Mediterranean Partner Country to sign such a MoU – the first was Israel, and the Occupied Palestinian Territory is expected to follow. Negotiations with other Mediterranean Partner Countries (Algeria, Tunisia, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, and Egypt) on similar memoranda are under way.

EuropeAid’s Regional Programme funds MEDSTAT II, a project that aims at strengthening the capacity of the Partner Countries’ National Statistics Institutes and each country’s own National Statistical System in order to provide updated, timely, reliable and relevant high-quality statistical data necessary for political decision-making and to ensure good governance.
