Italy: EIB finances water and wastewater investments in the province of Rome
The European Investment Bank is lending EUR
200 million to ACEA to finance water and wastewater investments in the Province
of Rome. The project covers investments from ACEA’s 2007-2012 investment
programme under its ATO2 concession.
ACEA is today the largest Italian water
sector operator, with a population served in excess of 8 million.
The loan was signed in Rome by ACEA’s CEO
Andrea Mangoni and EIB’ Vice President Dario Scannapieco, responsible for financing
operations in Italy, Greece, Cyprus, Malta and the Western Balkans.
"The
Bank appreciates being able to finance ACEA’s investment programme, which will
have a direct positive impact on the water-related services offered by the
company and indirect economic and environmental benefits through a general
system upgrading, while increasing attention to the use of energy from water
treatment plants”, said Scannapieco. "Today’s agreement", he added, "contributes to further reinforce the good working relationship
established with ACEA over the years”.
The investment programme under the
concession “ATO2 Lazio Centrale – Roma” contributes to ACEA’s compliance with
key EU water sector Directives .
