Water economics

There has been progress in a number of projects on water economics:

• Aquamoney (FP 6 project on environmental and resource costs and benefits for the purpose of WFD implementation). The project is carrying out a number of case studies with a view to improving the methodologies and data available on valuation of water resources. The project's final year (end spring 2009) is focussing on finalising technical guidelines for practitioners and briefings for policy makers; For more information : www.aquamony.org
• A Handbook on a pan-European approach to economic assessment of water-related impacts of policies has been commissioned by DG ENV.D.2, and the project is expected to deliver a  complement to the Commission's Impact Assessment guidelines with a focus on water, in 2009. A study on the links between the environment and competitiveness, which includes a specific water case study, is also expected to deliver results in early 2009.
