News Tunisia: Launch of an international tender for 11 water desalination plants within a few weeks

The governement plans to build up a total of 14 desalination plants in Southern Tunisia.

Three water desalination plants are being built in the regions of Nefta, Hezoua and Tozeur, for a global cost of TND 15.8 million. An international tender is to be launched in October 2008 for the establishment of the 11 others.

According to ANSAmed (Italy)

'[...] As regards the daily capacity, it will be of 6,000 cubic metres for Tozeur, 4,000 cubic metres for Nefta and 650 cubic metres for Hezoua. The project is part of a national programme based on the construction of 14 plants in south Tunisia and the first beneficiaries will be the residents of these areas, forced to drink only mineral water due to the high grade of saltiness of the natural water [...]'.
