EU Ministers take note of preparations for UfM food and agriculture conference

EU Foreign Ministers meeting in the General Affairs Council have taken note of preparations for a Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) ministerial conference on food security, agriculture and rural development to be held in Cairo, Egypt, on 15 and 16 June. 

The Council Conclusions said the conference followed on from a commitment made by foreign ministers at a meeting in Marseille on 3-4 November 2008. "It will aim at identifying and promoting projects related to sustainable rural development, the development and promotion of quality products and the coordination of agricultural research on topics such as water stress resistant plant species and water resources management," the Conclusions said.
