News IDRC: New regional director in Cairo

IDRC announced the appointment of two new regional office directors:

Simon Carter will lead the Eastern and Southern Africa office in Nairobi and Aboudou Karim Adjibade will direct the Cairo office for the Middle East and North Africa region.

“Both Simon and Karim bring a wealth of knowledge and experience from distinguished careers that will be wonderful assets to the Centre’s efforts in both these regions,” says Lauchlan T. Munro, IDRC’s vice-president of corporate strategy and regional management.

Simon Carter has been with IDRC since 1998, most recently as program manager for the Agriculture and Environment program. Previously, he worked for the Tropical Soil Biology and Fertility program in Nairobi and the International Centre for Tropical Agriculture in Cali, Colombia. Simon holds a PhD in geography from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne in the UK.

Karim Adjibade is a long-time employee of UNICEF, and was most recently its representative in Yemen and a member of the Regional Management Team for the Middle East and North Africa. He has also worked with USAID in Burkina Faso and taught law at the Université de Ouagadougou. Karim holds a doctorate of law degree from the Université de Nice in France.

Both regional directors will begin their new postings in November. IDRC warmly thanks the current regional directors Constance Freeman (Nairobi) and Eglal Rached (Cairo) for their many years of sterling service. We wish them all the best in their retirement.
