News Water Programme Policy Advisor, Oxfam, Oxford, UK

Oxfam’s programmes support people living in poverty to adapt to the changes taking place around them by securing the long-term water supplies that will underpin their lives and livelihoods. You’ll be the driving force behind how we do that.

Oxfam has a sector-wide reputation for providing safe water to people affected by emergencies. We are increasingly working at local, national and international levels to secure water for people living in poverty for the long-term. We’ll expect you to support the design and delivery of programmes that bring about local and national change in poor people’s ability to access the water they need to secure their long-term well-being. We’ll expect you to set out a long-term vision that will guide our policy and practise on water. You’ll draw out the implications of local and global issues, frame those within both a political and environmental context, and use that insight to inform and support country programme initiatives, guide our strategic thinking on Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction, and inform our global campaigns.

You’ll have proven expertise in developing water policy that addresses long-term issues, preferably including a strong element of bringing about national change in developing countries. Chances are you’re currently working with another NGO or, possibly, in a research or academic post. Either way, you’ll have a good grasp of the challenges communities and societies face in securing water for domestic and productive use. You’ll be capable of providing top-level thinking that takes into account all of the latest trends and just as able to communicate that in a powerful and influential manner.

The ability to speak Spanish, French or Portuguese in addition to English will also be an advantage.
