Call for Nominations
The Sidney Loeb award has been promoted by EDS in order to inspire the future generation of scientists, researchers, professionals, managers operating in the water and desalination industry in line with the mission and constitutional objective of the European Desalination Society (EDS).
The Award recognizes “innovations“ introduced in the desalination and water industry with particular regard to those achievements that contributed to sustainability of desalination and water re-use.
Application
Candidates may be proposed by nominations from members of the EDS or from anybody in the industry.
In addition the EDS board members can propose and select candidates whose work has been particularly outstanding.
A candidate could be an individual, a team of individuals, a company or an association.
Evaluation criteria
The term “innovation “ is intended in the broader sense and refers not only to scientific application but also to practical, industrial implementations both technical and financial.
The following evaluation criteria should be considered for evaluation of the application:
1) Innovation
2) Contribution to sustainability
3) Practical implementation
4) Degree of benefits and beneficiaries
5) Teamwork
The candidate must have contributed innovative ideas into the desalination and water re-use industry through research and development or industrial practice.
|
Particular consideration will be given to those innovations that found a practical, proven industrial implementation.
Furthermore consideration will be given to the categories, varieties and number of beneficiaries that have the possibility of taking advantage of the innovation.
EDS places much emphasis on “working together “ towards achieving the industry goal of more sustainable desalination and water re-use solutions as a way of promoting communication, improving industry and research interface and overcoming cultural barriers that prevent scientific enhancement. Therefore the contribution of a team which introduces a particular innovation into the market is also given particular consideration.
Selection
The selection of the candidate will be done by a committee that is appointed by the EDS board members and may constitute both board members or qualified representatives.
The committee will be chaired by an Award chairman appointed by the EDS board whose role will be coordinating the contribution of the selection committee without influencing the committee decisions
Award
The award will be a certificate or a trophy to be presented at EDS conferences.
There is no commitment by EDS to accept candidates for this award on a regular basis at each of the EDS events. The award may be presented as and when the EDS board consider this is opportune given the industry development.
