On 24 January PLoSMed published the results of a
systematic literature review on the effect of sanitation on soil-transmitted
helminth infection. The research was carried out by a team at the Swiss Tropical
and Public Health Institute in Basel, with partial support from WHO/WSH. The

Call for Campylobacter
experts
WHO is in the process of identifying experts for a consultation on
foodborne and waterborne campylobacteriosis. The consultation is scheduled
tentatively to take place between mid-June and mid-July. The call for experts

Water Safety Conference,
Uganda, 13-15 November 2012
Kampala, Uganda will be the venue of the third Water
Safety Conference, organized by the International Water Association (IWA) and
the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), and co-sponsored by WHO. The
event aims to bring together global practitioners, researchers and decision
makers to discuss best practices and emerging trends for improving the safety
of global water supplies. Submission of abstracts is invited by 30 March 2012.

IWA Drinking Water Safety
Awards – NEW in 2012
The IWA Drinking Water Safety Award scheme recognizes excellence in
the management of drinking water quality. It is aimed at service providers in
low- and middle-income countries who have made demonstrable progress in
improving and sustaining the quality of water provided to urban or peri-urban
populations through WSP implementation. The Call for Submissions closes on 31
