News World Water Council’s Youth Delegates

Context

The World Water Council aims to act as a global leader that brings together a large number of stakeholders concerned with water and sanitation issues. It organizes every three years the World Water Forum in a different host country. The World Water Council has gained its legitimacy through the wide involvement of its members and partners representing the worldwide water community, including: political decision-makers, water users and beneficiaries, civil society organisations, intergovernmental bodies, water experts and practitioners. The World Water Council consists of a Board of 36 Governors representing five major categories of stakeholders.

In order to integrate an intergenerational approach within the institution, the WWC’s Board of Governors has decided to create a Youth Task Force, consisting of three members, that will be asked to study how to involve youth representatives to a greater extent in the Council’s activities, starting with the Council’s next General Assembly to be held on 18 and 19 November 2012 in Marseille. The newly elected Board in November will then decide upon the specific involvement of youth organizations within the Council from that point forward.

To create the WWC’s Youth Task Force, a call for interest is being launch towards international organisations addressing youth and water issues. The time has come for youth to be recognized as part of the solution by impacting policy dialogues at local and global scales. The World Water Council aims to promote youth policies and increase youth participation in decision-making processes for universal access to water and sanitation. Investing in youth now is recognizing their key role for social improvement, economic growth and environmental security for tomorrow.

Call of interest process

If you believe you can be a dedicated member of our Task Force, please let us know by filling in our Call for Interest form and sending it back before 15 September. The selection of the three members of the Youth Task Force will be made upon the applications received.
