H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco receives the Zayed International Prize for the Environment

On Wednesday 7th May 2014, H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco was awarded the Zayed International Prize for the Environment in Dubai (United Arab Emirates) for his commitment to the environment and the efforts carried out by his Foundation in this field. The Prince was presented the award by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rachid al Maktoum, United Arab Emirates Vice-President, Prime Minister and the Ruler of Dubai.

This Prize, one of the most prestigious awards worldwide, was established in 1999 to acknowledge and encourage exemplary action for environmental protection.

The Sovereign Prince is the fourth individual to receive the Zayed Prize, following Mr Jimmy Carter, the former President of the United States, Dr Gro Harlem Brundtland, former Prime Minister of Norway and former President Lee Myung-Bak, of the Republic of Korea.

In his address, the Sovereign Prince stressed that:"Environmental protection is a cause that is both too important and too vast for us ever to believe that we have accomplished our duty."

Furthermore, during this trip, the Sovereign Prince held discussions with H.E.Dr Rashid Ahmed Bin Fahad, the UAE’s Minister of Environment and Water, as well as with Ms Razan Khalifa Al Mubarak, Secretary General of the Environment Agency in Abu Dhabi.

A memorandum of understanding was also signed between the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and the Zayed International Foundation for the Environment.

S.A.S le Prince Albert II de Monaco a reçu le Prix International Zayed pour l’environnement, le mercredi 7 mai 2014, à Dubaï (Emirats Arabes Unis), de Son Altesse le Cheikh Mohammed ben Rachid al Maktoum, Vice-Président, Premier Ministre des Emirats Arabes Unis et Emir de Dubaï, pour Son engagement en faveur de l’environnement et des actions menées dans ce domaine par Sa Fondation.

Ce Prix, devenu l’un des plus prestigieux au monde, a été créé en 1999 dans le but de reconnaître et d’encourager les actions exemplaires en faveur de la préservation de l’environnement.

Le Prince Souverain est ainsi la quatrième personnalité à recevoir le Prix Zayed après M. Jimmy Carter, ancien Président des États-Unis, Dr Gro Harlem Brundtland, ancienne Premier Ministre de Norvège, et Lee Myung-Bak, ancien Président de la République de Corée.

Dans Son allocution, le Prince Souverain a souligné que : « la défense de l’environnement est une cause à la fois trop importante et trop vaste pour que l’on puisse jamais se reposer avec le sentiment du devoir accompli ».

Par ailleurs, à l’occasion de ce déplacement, le Prince Souverain S’est entretenu avec S.E. Dr Rashid Ahmed Bin Fahad, Ministre de l’Environnement et de l’Eau des Etats Arabes Unis, ainsi qu’avec S.E. Mme Razan Khalifa Al Mubarak, Secrétaire générale de l’Agence de l’Environnement d’Abu Dhabi.

Un mémorandum d’accord a également été signé entre la Fondation Prince Albert II de Monaco et la Fondation international Zayed pour l’Environnement.
