Extensive French assessment highlights the wetlands degradation
On March 27, the French General Commission for Sustainable Development (CGDD) published a report on wetlands and aquatic environments as part of the French assessment of ecosystems and ecosystem services (Efese). "For the public sector resources manager but also the citizen, this report provides the necessary references to inform decisions concerning these environments," said Laurence Monnoyer-Smith, the General Commissioner. According to this assessment, continental wetlands and aquatic environments are among the least well conserved ecosystems at the national level. They are home of nearly 45% of endangered species in metropolitan France, even though the authors noticed that the populations of waterbirds are in "a good state of conservation"
