News Vacancy: urban water engineers

Tractebel GKW GmbH, Germany  is looking for urban water engineers to work on projects such as water schemes and sewer improvement programmes at all stages, from conception and planning to completion and handover.

Typical responsibilities include:

  • Producing designs, both initial outlines and full plans, of sewerage, water treatment and flood defence structures such as pump systems and pipe networks
  • Presenting project details and technical information to colleagues and clients
  • Writing reports
  • Managing sub-project budgets
  • Keeping up to date with changes in regulatory legislation and guidelines
  • Writing and advertising tender documents and managing contracts
  • Liaising with clients, contractors, government agencies, local authorities and suppliers
  • Supervising local staff and site workers for their project responsibilities
  • Using a variety of specialist computer applications/simulation software
  • Maintain effective relationships with members of all divisions and departments responsible for performing services related to the project
  • Prepare construction cost estimates, perform construction monitoring and coordinate field activities

Your profile

  • University degree (M.Sc.) in civil engineer, mechanical engineer, process or environmental engineer or other suitable qualification
  • Experience in the preparation of master plans, feasibility studies, tender documents and construction planning, and / or experience with construction supervision, project management and / or commissioning of water supply and / or wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Preferably 5 years of professional experience in international consulting/engineering in the field of urban water management, preferably in projects financed by bilateral and multilateral donor organisations and development banks
  • Structured approach to work a high degree of flexibility, initiative, persuasiveness and negotiation skills as well as the ability to work in a team
  • Willingness to travel extensively
  • Good knowledge of written and spoken English and preferably an additional business language (French, Spanish, etc.)
  • Additional experience in BIM and technical software would be desirable
