A two-day intensive course on solar driven desalination and water purification Gathering the water and renewable energy communities!
As part of the deliverables of the socio-economic project led by the CCPM3 research team, the CRTSE is organizing a two-day intensive course on solar driven desalination and water purificaton.
Introduction
Solar desalination technologies represent a promising option to alleviate the increasing shortage of fresh water and energy in many arid and coastal regions worldwide. Solar photovoltaics (PV) represent a perfect and clean alternative solution to fossil fuels, especially for remote communities such as grid-limited villages or semi-arid countries like Algeria.
Objectives
The general purpose of this 2-day intensive course is to provide academics, industrials and postgraduate students with the fundamental information of the different existing technologies involving the use of solar energy to drive the different desalination processes. The course will focus mainly on reverse osmosis (RO) desalination, which at present is the most widely used technology for the production of freshwater from saline water sources. The course will be complemented with a technical visit to one of the largest seawater reverse osmosis desalination plants in Algeria, namely Hamma Desalination Plant located in the capital Algiers “TBC”.
