News Senior Adviser WASH (Capacity Building), P-5, Programmes, New York

The primary purpose of the post is to provide the following: overall technical support to the Water, Environment and Sanitation section in activities related to policies and programmes in water, environmental sanitation and hygiene, in collaboration with other agencies and donors; guidelines and their implementation; support and strengthen capacity and leadership skills of UNICEF sector support toward meeting the MDGs; support to strategy development on water, environment and sanitation.

Your profile:
• Advanced university degree in relevant field such as public health, water supply, social sciences, environmental sciences, public health/sanitation/environmental engineering, epidemiology.
• Ten to twelve years of progressively responsible work experience in a professional capacity at national and international levels in water technology, environmental health (sanitation, health and hygiene education for behaviour change), six of which must be in developing countries.
• Computer literacy is required.
• Specialized training in advanced research including practical field experience in policy development and formulation would be an added advantage.
• Experience in programme evaluation, publications of relevant sector articles and other research linking environmental issues to health and health development would be an asset.
• Fluency in English and either French or Spanish required. Any other UN language an asset.
