The Mediterranean component of the European Union Water Initiative

The European Union Water Initiative (EU-WI) represents the EU's most specific contribution to support the implementation of the Decisions of the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD)  held in Johannesburg in September 2002. It stands for a common European approach to meet the challenges of water-related  Millennium Development Goals.

Its fundamental objectives refer to:

• Water supply and sanitation
• Integrated Water Resource Management

The Mediterranean Component (MED EUWI) is a regional component of the EUWI and shares its overall objectives. The MED EUWI is led by the Greek Government's Ministry of the Environment.
